Cold extrusion is simply a push-through compressive forming process that uses and extruder or extrusion machine. During the process, a punch is used to apply the pressure on the metal blades against a stationary die. The tonnage applied on the metal blank is determined by the product that is to be formed and the material. It is also important to note that modern hydraulic press machine for cold extrusion enables users to control the amount of tonnage to be applied.
Cold extrusion is the metal blank in the cold extrusion die cavity, at room temperature, through the hydraulic press on the fixed punch to apply pressure to the blank, so that the metal blank plastic deformation and the parts of the processing method.

The fourth type of cold extrusion is the compound extrusion. In compound extrusion, part of the material flows in the same direction is the punch, while the other flows in the opposite direction of the punch. This kind of extrusion can be used to manufacture various parts, including rods, barrel parts, and cups. The fifth and last type is forging extrusion. In forging, the material flows radially outward. However, forward extrusion, reverse extrusion, and compound extrusion the most widely used extrusion methods.

Cold extrusion can work on a vast range of metals. Some of the metals that can be cold-extruded include lead, tin, aluminum, copper, zinc and their alloys, tool steel, low alloy steel, and stainless steel, low carbon steel, medium carbon steel, bearing steel, and high carbon high aluminum alloy among others.
Cold extrusion is perfect for mass production and producing a vast range of parts. Some of the products that can be manufactured using this extrusion include collapsible tubes, shock absorber cylinders, rods, tubes, aluminum cans, fire extinguisher cases, shock absorber cylinders, barrel parts, gear blanks, and so on.
